SILENT ADORATION

POPE PAUL VI: HIS WORDS ON BLESSED ALBERIONE

“There he is: humble, silent, tireless, ever-vigilant, always recollected in his thoughts, which run from prayer to work; always intent on scrutinizing the signs of the times, that is, the most innovative ways of reaching souls. Our Don Alberione has given the Church new instruments with which to express herself, new means of giving vigor and breadth to her apostolate, new capacities and a new awareness of the importance and possibilities of her mission in the modern world, with modern means. Don Alberione, allow the Pope to rejoice in your long, faithful and tireless work and in the fruit it has produced for the glory of God and the good of the Church.”

OPENING PRAYER

O God,

who raised up in your Church Blessed James Alberione, your priest,

to proclaim your Son as the Way, the Truth and the Life,

through the many forms of communication,

grant, we beseech you,

that we may follow his example

and devote ourselves to preaching the Gospel to all nations.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who is God and lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever. Amen.

TESTIMONIES OF THE PAULINE FAMILY

Don Tito Armani, SSP: Cf. Cose Nuove, Cose Antiche, ed. Vito Spagnolo, Rome: SSP, p. 16

There are two things which always impressed me greatly: his faith and his suffering. His faith was becoming for us most evident when he would undertake initiatives or constructions that were clearly out of proportion to financial possibilities. His faith has been fantastic: certainly it had something heroic. (…) I believe that his suffering was the prize that God asked of him, practically during his whole life. We know that he suffered unbelievably during his last two years, but also before. His arthritis never left him: nevertheless we know that it never stopped him from being at his workplace and to deal with everyone in a way that was always gentle and amiable. I remember – I believe it was around 1948 – that somebody had suggested, “Why don’t you go to a mud spa?” He simply answered: “This is my cross and I must carry it to my grave.” Suffering was the

true companion of his life.

Madre Tecla Molino, PDDM: Cf. Cose Nuove, Cose Antiche, op. cit., p. 83

We, as Pauline Family, were truly born of the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the power source of all the Church. (…) We have a Eucharistic color because Primo Maestro told us that we were born of the Host … Eucharistic color and Eucharistic mission. Primo Maestro compared us to the heart of the Pauline Family, the lymph that nourishes the tree. The Eucharist is not only joining our hands and kneeling, but also life, communion, sacrifice and oblation. It is broken bread, blood outpoured. Therefore, there are characteristics born from the Eucharistic Mystery – that is, self-giving. Vocation and mission. The mission follows right away. In God’s plan revealed to us by Primo Maestro we have to nourish spiritually the Church, the Pauline Family and give witness.

Maestra Assunta Bassi, FSP: Cf. Cose Nuove, Cose Antiche, op. cit., p. 59

I worked side by side with Fr. Alberione and I traveled with him. Often he would phone and ask me, “Did you read the newspapers?” Fr. Alberione had a deep sense of history. He was living with humankind that is journeying. Fr. Alberione was a history teacher in the seminary of Alba. He deeply felt the course of history. I sensed this while dealing with him. Now, today, are we interested in humankind’s journey?

(Silence – Personal Reflection)

Madre Celina Orsini, SGBP: Cf. Cose Nuove, Cose Antiche, op. cit., p. 94

Once we went to a parish in Calabria and the Sisters were all very happy. And the people were also happy as was the pastor, notwithstanding much poverty. Primo Maestro showed himself satisfied that out mission was bringing so much joy: “Communicate joy; communicate joy … You will conquer, especially the youth, with music and song.”

(Silence – Personal Reflection)

Madre Teresa Rossi, AP: Cf. Cose Nuove, Cose Antiche, op. cit., p. 107

Fr. Alberione had great vision. He had a vast universal mentality. The Church was within him and he was transmitting the love for the Church. The initiatives of the exhibits were to favor and promote all consecrated vocations: to help the Institutes collaborate among themselves and to make the young people aware of the various possibilities of the good to live. We were beginning to do catechesis on the vocation to life, to faith, to matrimony and to all vocations.

PRAYER FOR THE GLORIFICATION OF BLESSED JAMES ALBERIONE

Most Holy Trinity, you wanted to rekindle in the Church the apostolic charism of St. Paul by revealing yourself in the light of the Eucharist to Blessed Alberione, Founder of the Pauline Family. Grant that the presence of Christ the Master be radiated in the world through Mary Queen of the Apostles and St. Paul the Apostle. Glorify in your Church this apostle of the new evangelization. Raise up men and women, open to the signs of the times, who – following his example – work with modern means to lead all humanity to you. We bless and glorify you, now and forever. Amen.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

GOSPEL: Jn 10:11, 17-18 – PERSONAL REFLECTION

WORDS OF BLESSED JAMES ALBERIONE: Cf. SP, January 1963

Holiness assures fruits in the apostolate. The love of God leads to love of neighbor. An abundance of prayer, of divine gifts and of love for God leads to the desire to remove offenses to God and to bring love and salvation to souls. One wants the heavenly Father to be loved by all his children, as Jesus loved: “The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life for the ransom of many. Those who are perfect would willingly lay down their lives a thousand times to please God. True love of God rouses a person to pure, calm, ardent, constant and strong zeal – to the point of giving one’s life. Instead, when a person is not wholly united to God, dead to self and detached from everything, that individual’s zeal will be impulsive, erratic, turbulent, choleric. The person will seek him/herself, not God and souls. Perfection is reached when, as St. Paul says, “It is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me.”

EXAMINATION OF THE HEART

PRAYER: “To Jesus Good Shepherd” (cf. The Prayers of the Pauline Family, p. 216)

SONG: “Like a Shepherd” (Bob Dufford) or another appropriate song

PERSONAL RESOLUTION

PRAYER COMPOSED AND PRAYED DAILY BY DON TITO ARMANI, SSP

Primo Maestro,

continue to bless us from heaven.

Do not take into account our ingratitude

and lack of correspondence to divine grace.

Renew and increase in us all

the spirit of prayer, of faith, of poverty

and of charity, of which we are in great need.

ROSARY

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Lord, glorify in your Church Blessed James Alberione. May he be for us all an example and intercessor in the journey of our sanctification and our apostolic commitment. Open the ways of evangelization so that the presence of Jesus Master, Way and Truth and Life may shine in the world, through Mary, Mother and Queen of Apostles. Grant me the graces that I ask for this time … Glory to the Father …

EUCHARISTIC BENEDICTION may follow.
