INTRODUCTION

(Cf. Ottokar Prohaszka in Meditation on the Sunday Gospels, Year C, ed. John Rotelle, NY: New City Press, 1998, p. 104-105)

Martha, the busy woman, receives Jesus into her house, but even in his presence she is unable to stop working; she is so busy, there is much to do! Whereas Mary is not working now; she sits at Jesus’ feet and opens her soul to him. She has been working, and will work again later, but now she adores, loves, enjoys and is radiantly happy … Martha should also sit down in the Master’s presence trying to enter into his soul. Time for work will be forthcoming afterwards … One thing is needed – a spirit united with God and living by him. With God for your life, your center, all your endeavors will be integrated as the circumference of this center.

SILENT ADORATION

OPENING PRAYER

Leader: Lord,

send your light upon your family.

May they continue to enjoy your favor

and devote themselves to doing good.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Assembly: Amen.

Part I

JESUS MASTER TRUTH

Listening to the Word

FIRST READING: Gen 18:1-10a

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

GOSPEL READING: Lk 10:38-42

PERSONAL REFLECTION

(As a tool for personal reflection, please visit the PDDM Website: www.pddm.org // www.pddm.us for BREAKING THE BREAD OF THE WORD [Series 5, n. 34]: A Lectio Divina Approach to the Sunday Liturgy. The Biblico-Liturgical Reflections are an aid for a deeper understanding of the Gospel reading.)

Part II

JESUS MASTER WAY

Confrontation with the Word

POINTS FOR THE EXAMINATION OF THE HEART

A.     The presence of God can be found in unexpected places. Where do you find Christ in your daily life?

B.     Doing many tasks is not necessarily the best way to encounter and serve Christ in our lives. How would you change your life’s direction in order to make more time for Christ?

C.     Each of us may have to let go of different things and find different way to live in Christ. Where do you need to let go?

D.     Are we receptive and hospitable to the Word of God? Do we believe that a disciple is one who feasts on the word of the Lord and nourished by it, put God’s command of love and service into practice?

PRAYING WITH THE WORD

Leader: O Jesus, you are our divine guest

We welcome you in our heart.

We offer you the love and comfort you found

in the home of your two pious disciples, Martha and Mary.

O Jesus, you are also our divine host.

You prepare for us the banquet of your living Word.

As your loving and welcoming disciples,

we partake of this banquet.

And as we feast on the bread of the Word,

we are strengthened in our charitable works

as “Good Samaritans” in today’s world.

We love you; we thank you; we adore you now and forever.

Assembly: Amen.

Part III

JESUS LIFE

Acting upon the Word

PERSONAL PRAYER

CONTEMPLATING WITH MARY THE FACE OF CHRIST: The Mysteries of Light of the Rosary may be prayed in part or in full.

THE WAY OF SOLIDARITY: PRAYER OF INTERCESSION

Priest: With trust and confidence, let us present our petitions to our loving God who gave us the gift of his Son, the Eucharistic Master. Let us say to him:

(R.) LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.

1.      For the Holy Father’s General Intention for this month of July: FOR THE COMMON GOOD: That all citizens may participate actively in working to achieve and maintain the common good. We pray: (R.)

2.      For the Holy Father’s Mission Intention for this month of July: FOR HELP FOR MISSIONARIES: That all Christians, aware of their missionary duty, may actively help those engaged in the evangelization of peoples. We pray: (R.)

3.      That the Word of God may find a welcoming home in every one’s heart, we pray: (R.)

4.      That the bearers of God’s Word may courageously proclaim it even if met with opposition and lack of hospitality, we pray: (R.)

5.      That those who feel rejected, unwelcome and unloved may experience true hospitality and welcome in the love and service of Christian disciples, we pray: (R.)

(Other prayers may be added.)

THE LORD’S PRAYER

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Leader: Lord,

come, live in your people

and strengthen them by your grace.

Help them to remain close to you in prayer

and give them a true love for one another.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.

Assembly: Amen.

FINAL SONG: Any Eucharistic hymn or song of praise may be sung.
