EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
THROUGH THE LITURGICAL YEAR (# 49)
A Weekly Pastoral Tool for the YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST
31st Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A
October 30 - November 5, 2005
“Only One Is Your Master”
(+) In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
(A moment of silence)
SONG: Any suitable Eucharistic hymn or any appropriate song may be sung.
WORDS OF BLESSED JAMES ALBERIONE
Jesus was called a Teacher not only in the sense that he had communicated knowledge, but because he transposed his life into his disciples making them similar to himself. He educated them into divine life and guided them toward eternal life. “You address me as ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’, and fittingly enough, for that is what I am” (Jn 13:13). May Christ, the Way, Truth and Life, live in us! Then it will no longer be the person who wills, thinks and loves, but it will be Jesus Christ thinking, acting and loving in him. The full and comprehensive concept of Master as it relates to every man and all of humanity, regarding both human and supernatural elevation, is incarnated in Christ: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (Jn 14:6).
SILENT ADORATION
OPENING PRAYER
Leader: O almighty and eternal God,
in your love you have sent us your only Son
as universal Teacher.
Grant that we may learn his divine doctrine
in order to understand more easily the supernatural realities.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.
Assembly: Amen.
Part I
JESUS MASTER TRUTH
Listening to the Word
GOSPEL READING: Mt 23:1-12
PERSONAL REFLECTION
(As a tool for personal reflection, please visit the PDDM Website: www.pddm.org // www.pddm.us for BREAKING THE BREAD OF THE WORD [# 49]: A Lectio Divina Approach to the Sunday Liturgy. The Biblico-Liturgical Reflections are an aid for a deeper understanding of the Gospel reading.)
SONG: Any Eucharistic hymn or suitable song of praise may be sung.
Part II
JESUS MASTER WAY
Confrontation with the Word
POINTS FOR THE EXAMINATION OF THE HEART
Leader: We open our hearts to listen to the promptings of the living Word. Let us ask ourselves with limpid honesty:
1. Like some scribes and Pharisees rightly castigated for their vanity and hypocrisy, are we also guilty of these faults? If so, what do we do?
2. How do we relate to our one sole Father in heaven? Do we have an intense filial relationship with our “Abba” – Father?
3. Do we fix our loving gaze upon Jesus, the Divine Master? Do we allow this incomparable Teacher to reveal his heavenly Father and himself to us? Do we allow Christ to live in us?
PRAYER: “Invocations to the Divine Master” (by Blessed James Alberione)
Jesus Master, sanctify my mind and increase my faith.
Jesus, teaching in the Church, draw everyone to your school.
Jesus Master, deliver me from error, from vain thoughts, and from eternal darkness.
Jesus, Way between the Father and us, I offer you all and await all from you.
Jesus, Way of sanctity, make me your faithful imitator.
Jesus Way, render me perfect as the Father who is in heaven.
Jesus Life, live in me, so that I may live in you.
Jesus Life, do not permit me to separate myself from you.
Jesus Life, grant that I may live eternally in the joy of your love.
Jesus Truth, may I be light for the world.
Jesus Way, may I be example and model for souls.
Jesus Life, may my presence bring grace and consolation everywhere.
SONG: Any suitable song may be sung.
Part III
JESUS LIFE
Acting upon the Word
PERSONAL PRAYER
CONTEMPLATING WITH MARY THE FACE OF CHRIST: The Mysteries of Light of the Rosary may be prayed in part or in full.
THE WAY OF SOLIDARITY: PRAYER OF INTERCESSION
Leader: Let us pray to God who cares for all, and with earnest humility say:
(R.) LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.
1. For all men and women, that they may come to know that only Jesus is the true Teacher – that is, the Way, Truth and Life – and follow him whom the Father has sent us saying, “This is my beloved Son, hear him.”
2. For the Church, so that living and proclaiming the mystery of Christ in all its fullness, she will reveal to the world the manifold wisdom of God.
3. For the members of the Pauline Family, that they may live and promote the devotion to the Divine Master as the most precious inheritance of the Founder who said, “I have neither gold nor silver but I give you what I have: Jesus Master, Way, Truth and Life – his doctrine, his moral, his means of grace.”
4. For us here present, that recognizing our insufficiencies, we may feel the need of drawing near to the Font of Life, of nourishing ourselves on the Word and the body of Christ.
(Other prayers may be added.)
THE LORD’S PRAYER
CONCLUDING PRAYER
Leader: Loving Father,
in the Eucharist,
you have nourished us with the bread of the living Word
and with the saving body and blood of Christ.
Illumined by his divine teaching,
may we always regard you with filial love.
May we faithfully travel the way that leads to salvation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Assembly: Amen.
FINAL SONG: Any suitable Eucharistic hymn or song of praise may be sung.
