WORDS OF DOM HENRI LE SAUX

            Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do … The kingdom of heaven is actually hidden from the wise and prudent of this world, even from the many who proclaim themselves spiritual. They are too rich to accept the constant gift of God; they are too intelligent to say with the babes, Yes, Father, and above all to say it, not with so-called resignation or acceptance under compulsion, but with the same joy which was prompted in the heart of Christ by his discovering in everything the love of the Father. For him who has faith everything comes from the Father and everything leads to the Father. Health, sickness, wealth, poverty, success, failure, and so on, are only manifestations of the holy will of God … It is an act of prayer and contemplation to look at the sun, at the stars, at the sky, when faith reveals in them the presence and the love of the Creator … There is indeed nothing in the world whose impact on our senses should not blossom into prayer, when looked at with the eyes of faith, with the eyes of Christ, the one who knows everything in the Father.

SILENT ADORATION AND PRAYER

OPENING PRAYER (By St. Anselm)

Leader: God of love, whose compassion never fails,

we bring you the sufferings of the world;

the needs of the homeless,

the cries of prisoners,

the pain of the sick and injured,

the sorrow of the bereaved,

the helplessness of the elderly and weak.

According to their needs and your great mercy,

strengthen and relieve them in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Assembly: Amen.

Part II

JESUS MASTER WAY

Confrontation with the Word

POINTS FOR THE EXAMINATION OF THE HEART

Leader: Jesus, the meek and humble of heart, reigns over us by the light of his wisdom and the yoke of his love. Let us now look deep into our hearts and ask:

1.      How does Jesus’ prayer of thanksgiving to the Father inspire us and give meaning to our lives?

2.      Do we trust in Jesus as the true revelation of the Father? Are we the “little ones” who are willing to savor the rich and life-giving revelation of Jesus?

3.      How do we give heed to Jesus’ invitation: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Mt 11:28)? Are we ready to take up the yoke of the Father’s saving will and learn from him, who is “meek and humble of heart” (Mt 11:30)?

PENITENTIAL PRAYER     (by David M. Turoldo)

Father,

send the gift of peace into our hearts.

You know our efforts to follow

the trail that Jesus has blazed before us.

Forgive our weakness and infidelity,

so that, reinvigorated by your Spirit of peace,

we may resume our journey with greater courage

until we reach the home where you wait for us. Amen.

SONG: Any suitable song may be sung.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

CONCLUDING PRAYER

(by Blessed Charles de Foucauld)

Leader: Father,

I abandon myself into your hands;

do with me what you will.

Whatever you may do, I thank you;

I am ready for all; I accept all.

Let only your will be done in me,

and in all your creatures.

I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend myself;

I offer myself to you with all the love of my heart,

for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,

to surrender myself into your hands without reserve,

and with boundless confidence because you are my Father.

You live and reign forever and ever.

Assembly: Amen.

FINAL SONG: Any suitable Eucharistic hymn or song of praise may be sung.
