WORDS OF HESYCHIUS OF JERUSALEM

The festival we celebrate today, is one of victory – the victory of the Son of God, the king of the whole universe … This day brings a message of joy: it is the day of the Lord’s resurrection when, with himself, he raised up the race of Adam. Born for the sake of the human beings, he rose from the dead with them. On this day paradise is opened by the risen one, Adam is restored to life and Eve is consoled. On this day the divine call is heard, the kingdom is prepared, we are saved and Christ is adored. On this day, when he has trampled death underfoot, made the tyrant a prisoner, and despoiled the underworld, Christ ascended into heaven as a king in victory, as a ruler in glory, as an invincible charioteer. He said to the Father: Here am I, O God, with the children you have given me and he heard the Father’s reply: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool. To him be glory, now and forever, through endless ages. Amen.

SILENT ADORATION AND PRAYER

OPENING PRAYER

Leader: Father, all-powerful and ever-living God,

we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We praise you with greater joy than ever in this Easter season,

when Christ became our paschal sacrifice.

In him a new age has dawned,

the long reign of sin is ended,

a broken world has been renewed,

and man is once again made whole.

The joy of the resurrection renews the whole world,

while the choirs of heaven sing for ever to your glory:

Assembly: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Part II

JESUS MASTER WAY

Confrontation with the Word

POINTS FOR THE EXAMINATION OF THE HEART

Leader: The Lord is risen, alleluia! We experience today in a marvelous way the life-giving energy of the Lord’s resurrection. Defeating the clutches of death, the power of God dispels the sadness in our hearts and the beauty of life blossoms. Let us now delve into the life of the Risen Lord that wells within and see how fully we have lived the Easter event of his resurrection.

1.      Do we allow the joy of Easter to raise us up and let our lives be renewed by the Holy Spirit, the Risen Lord’s Easter gift to us?

2.      Are we faithful witnesses of Christ’s resurrection and true imitators of his saving compassion?

3.      How grateful are we to the Lord for calling us to participate more intimately in his death and rising from the dead? How do we share and communicate this saving reality with others?

PENITENTIAL PRAYER

Leader: In his great love, God our Father sent us his beloved Son to reconcile through him all things in heaven and on earth, making peace by the blood of his cross. Through his death and resurrection, Christ has achieved our salvation. In the Risen Lord, let us turn to the Father and beg his mercy and forgiveness. We say:

(R.) LORD, BE MERCIFUL.

1.      Forgive us, Lord, when we grieve the Holy Spirit, your Son Jesus Christ’s Easter gift. We say:  (R.)

2.      Forgive us, Lord, when we fail to rid ourselves of the old yeast of corruption and wickedness, of anger and bitterness, of intolerance and prejudice. We say:  (R.)

3.      Forgive us, Lord, for our lack of joy and our cowardice to witness the life-giving power of Easter. We say:  (R.)

4.      Forgive us, Lord, for our failure to live as an Easter people who communicate the peace won for us by Christ in his paschal event of death and glorification. We say:  (R.)

Leader: Almighty and merciful God, where sin has brought weakness, may your power heal and strengthen. Where sin has brought death, may your Spirit raise to new life. May the world see the glory of the Risen Lord and rejoice in the beauty and power of life he gives, now and forever.

Assembly: Amen.

SONG: Any suitable song may be sung.

Filled with joy and trusting hope in our own resurrection,

we now offer our petitions to the Father.

We pray:

(R.) LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Leader: Father in heaven,

your Son’s resurrection reveals the power of your glory

and your paternal compassion for us.

Deepen our love for the Risen Lord,

and increase our strength and enthusiasm

to incarnate his saving love for all.

We ask this through your Son whom you raised from the dead,

who lives on in the heart of the Church.

To him we give glory, now and forever.

Assembly: Amen.
