WORDS OF GREGORY PALAMAS
He who raised Lazarus from the dead enters Jerusalem today as king, seated on a donkey. Almost at once all the people, children and grownups, young and old alike, spread their garments on the road; and taking palm branches, symbols of victory, they went to meet him as the giver of life and conqueror of death. They worshipped him, and formed an escort. Within the temple precincts as well as without they sang with one voice, Hosanna to the Son of David! Hosanna in the highest! This hosanna is a hymn of praise addressed to God. It means, “Lord, save us.” The other words, in the highest, show that God is praised not only on earth by human beings, but also on high by the angels of heaven.
SILENT ADORATION AND PRAYER
OPENING PRAYER
Leader: Father, all-powerful and ever-living God,
we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Though he was sinless, he suffered willingly for sinners.
Though innocent, he accepted death to save the guilty.
By dying he has destroyed our sins.
By his rising he has raised us up to holiness of life.
We praise you, Lord, with all the angels in their song of joy:
Assembly: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

JESUS MASTER TRUTH
Listening to the Word
GOSPEL READING: Mt 26:14-27:66 or Mt 27:45-50

SONG: Any suitable hymn of praise or Lenten song may be sung.
Part II
JESUS MASTER WAY
Confrontation with the Word
POINTS FOR THE EXAMINATION OF THE HEART
Leader: We believe in faith that the passion of Christ continues in the passion of the poor and innocent in today’s world. Let us look deeply into our hearts and see the implication of the passion of Christ and the passion of the world for each of us.
1. How does the prayer of anguish uttered by Jesus on the Cross affect us personally: “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Mt 27:46)?
2. Why is the passion of Christ the passion of the world? Why is the passion of the world the passion of Christ?
3. How do we live out the passion of Christ and of the world in our body?
PENITENTIAL PRAYER
(Cf. Rite of Penance)
Leader: Lord Jesus Christ,
you are the Lamb of God;
you take away the sins of the world.
Through the grace of the Holy Spirit
restore me to friendship with your Father,
cleanse me from every stain of sin
in the blood you shed for me,
and raise me to new life,
for the glory of your name.
Assembly: Amen.
SONG: Any suitable song may be sung.
Part III
JESUS LIFE
Acting upon the Word
PERSONAL PRAYER
PRAYING WITH THE WORD
(Adapted from St. Ephrem’s Prayer to Christ)
Leader: I come to adore at your feet, Lord!
I give you thanks, God of goodness.
God of holiness, I invoke you as I kneel before your presence.
You suffered death on the cross for me, unworthy sinner.
Assembly: Glory to you, friend of mankind!
Glory to you, merciful one!
Glory to you, O patient one!
Glory to you who forgive sins!
Glory to you who came for our saving!
Glory to you who became man in the womb of a virgin!
Glory to you who was bound!
Glory to you who was flogged!
Glory to you who was mocked!
Glory to you buried in the tomb and raised to life!
Glory to you who preached the Gospel to humankind;
and they believed in you!
Glory to you ascended into heaven!
Glory to you who sit at the right hand of the Father!
With him you will return in majesty in the midst of angels,
to judge those who disregarded your passion.
CONTEMPLATING WITH MARY THE FACE OF CHRIST: The Mysteries of the Rosary may be prayed in part or in full.
THE WAY OF SOLIDARITY: PRAYER OF INTERCESSION
(Cf. Eucharistic Adoration for the Season of Lent, by the PDDM Sisters, Manila: 1996, p. 153)
Leader: Aware of our need for strength and courage to be constant and consistent in our resolve to follow the very destiny of Christ Jesus our King on the way of the cross, we pray for one another that we may never lose hope and faith. After every prayer, we will say:
(R.) LORD, SUSTAIN OUR WAVERING FAITH.
1. That in the name of Jesus accused and condemned we may always look on others with eyes of kindness and forgiveness. Let us pray: (R.)
2. That in the name of Jesus scourged and crowned with thorns there may come an end to all violence, torture and injustice. Let us pray: (R.)
3. That in the name of Jesus suffering on the cross the Church may be present to all the sufferings and miseries of all people. Let us pray: (R.)
4. That in the name of Jesus who shares in all our life we may grow in service and unselfish love. Let us pray: (R.)
(Other prayers may be added.)
THE LORD’S PRAYER
CONCLUDING PRAYER
Leader: Almighty, ever-living God,
you have given the human race Jesus Christ our Savior
as a model of humility.
He fulfilled your will
by becoming man and giving his life on the cross.
Help us to bear witness to you
by following his example of suffering
and make us worthy to share his resurrection.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Assembly: Amen.
FINAL SONG: Any suitable Eucharistic hymn or Lenten song may be sung.
